Manila Ocean Park Now Open!!!

Many have been asking when the park will open and fortunately early today I was able to see the park. It is only on its soft opening. So many parts are still not yet done. But the whole oceanarium is finished already.

Published rate is Php400 for adults. I forgot how much it is for kids though. They however give special discounts to school field trips or company sponsored family day.

They open from 10AM til 9PM.

Anyway here are the photos :) Enjoy!

As said earlier, it was the first day of the park to open so naturally it was jam packed. There were so many visitors that theĀ  management had to hold the next batch of visitors for a few minutes before allowing them to get inside so as to put some buffer time from the previous group of visitors.

The first part is a big open area simulating a rain forest. It is called the Agos. They also have big aquariums which contain fresh water fishes such as arapaima, piranha, and various types of crabs.

op03

But I guess people will be more excited in the next part where big aquariums are located which includes the 25-meter long tunnel. The aquariums contain different kinds of fish including sting rays and sharks.

Taking photos is allowed but you have to turn the flash unit of your cameras. Also food and beverages are not allowed inside the oceanarium. There are plenty of food stalls outside though.

You can even see staff cleaning the inside of the aquarium…

The famous and much awaited aquarium tunnel…

However, you can not linger around for so long. Because of the volume of people going inside the park, you will have to move forward otherwise guards will instruct you to do so. You can not also go back to the previous exhibits/rooms since it is a one way flow. Maybe you can stay longer when there are a few people inside. In a few months maybe :)

op11

Also at the second floor there is a fish spa where you can dip your feet in a small pool containing tiny fishes which bite your legs to “clean” them.

op12

The second floor also houses the shark viewing area and the stingray/fish feeding area.

op13

That’s about it. The park is big and I’m sure many kids and adults alike will enjoy the place. For me maybe I’ll go back again with my friends and family in a few months. When the influx of people is at a moderate pace. It will be more enjoyable if you can linger around for a few minutes than having to wait in line together with hundreds of other visitors just to get a ticket. Oh well that’s just me. Maybe you can also go there very early or on a Monday so as to avoid the rush.

The place is just new so you’d expect people to flock in the area. As I said earlier the park is just on its soft opening. Mangement said they target to fully open on August this year. By that time, they should have finished building the Boutique Mall and Hotel, and the Open Water Marine Habitat which will allow visitors to swim or snorkel.

  6. I haven’t been to the MOP yet as I plan to go visit when things have calmed down a bit …. lesser crowd and HOPEFULLY more courteous staff as what I have read from the post of remzamora in http://www.ourawesomeplanet.com/awesome/2007/11/manilaoceanpark.html.

I too have seen the oceanarium in HK and even the gigantic oceanariums in the U.S. Yes, I agree that the fishes in the Tunnel are small fish as compared to the ones I have seen overseas based from most of the photographs and videos of the MOP online.

However, the one BIG thing that disappoints me and is very noticeable even in the photographs and videos is the design and seascaping of the aquarium interior. I was hoping to see a more natural effect …. one that mimics the naturalness and natural look of the ocean floor. What I mean here is that in the photos, I can clearly see objects that are man-made structures. The drain on the flooring of the aqaurium inside the tunnel is so clearly visible. In some aquariums, I can see man-made, objects like a ship steering wheel inside … I am aware that the designers are trying to add some sort of “seascaping” (as opposed to landscaping) but those man-made decors becomes more of a distraction to the naturalness of the seaquarium instead of enhancing it. I think that the interior designers of the seaquariums should adopt a more natural and more calming look to their seascaping effort.

  7. Thank you for the info. Great pictures. I can’t wait to see pics of the actual opening (a.k.a., “finished”) ocean park.

    (Fees: adult=400 pesos, children=350 pesos, senior citizens= 320 pesos)

While these fees are still cheaper compared to the entrance fees in other countries (HK’s Ocean Park = 185 HK dollars, Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium = $27.50 for a premium day pass), I hope there’s a special fee for public school children so they can enjoy this educational ocean park.

  8. This ocean park is like in dubai. mas malaki yung aquarium nila at pinag sama sama lahat yung mga fish , turtle , at isdang pagei. marami ding mga fish at sharq sa loob may mga nag papakain din at may araw , oras sila . pwede ka rin mag pa kain sa loob ng big aquarium nila basta dala mo ung certificate mo sa diving.but before you enter, theirs some large aquarium na makikita mo muna bago yung mas malaking aquarium sa loob. its like ocean park pero mas malalaki ang keysa sa ocean park. dubai ba naman ang mag pagawa eh …. lahat ng bagay na magaganda nan doon. lalo na yang mga pasyalan.
