After I graduated from elementary, I took a basic computer programming class during summer. One of the concepts my teacher taught us was GIGO. If you’re not familiar with the initials, it means Garbage In, Garbage Out. This means if what you input is garbage or nonsense, then don’t expect the program or software to produce something of value.
This is what I thought of the recent political scenario in our country. Erap getting a pardon and the Malacanan asking for the Filipino people to move on.
We who were at Edsa during the days and nights of January of 2001 were wrong in thinking that we can have a better government by taking the garbage out of Malacanan and putting another garbage inside. To be fair, we never thought she would be another garbage.
The concept of GIGO also figuratively and literally comes to mind after the recent baranggay and sangguniang kabataan elections. As voters, you should have been able to analyze each candidate so as to avoid putting irresponsible and corrupt people in position. The baranggay is the smallest unit of government in our country and public service should start in our own backyard.
Literally, after days of campaigning, we are all left with waste materials from election paraphernalia used by candidates. Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez told in an interview that a candidate should only spend three pesos for each voter. Now I wonder if anyone out of the thousands of candidates we had ever followed that rule considering all the pamphlets I saw just today.
Garbage In… Garbage Out!

Tapos na ang eleksyon, sino ang maglilinis ng basura nyo?

Hmm I was in Edsa’01 way too early. I remember wearing pajamas, clutching my Erap doll and taking pictures with a Sony Mavica.
