Philippine Tourism Authority Manager Robert Dean Barbers together with Manila Ocean Park President Lim Chee Yong walk through an aquarium tunnel called the oceanarium inside the Manila Ocean Park in Manila.
There’s a new place to look out for by year end. The Office of the President together with the Philippine Tourism Authority will open a new park at the back of Quirino Grandstand in Manila. What used to be a boardwalk will now house a new facility. The park, named Manila Ocean Park is the first world-class marine themed complex in the country. It will bring together an oceanarium, a mall, restaurant row, hotel, open water marine habitats, and multi-purpose function facilities.
According to China Oceanis Philippines, Inc., the park’s developer, the oceanarium is 80% complete and is targeted to open by December of this year. The other facilities such as the hotel and the mall is scheduled to open first quarter of 2008.
The oceanarium will showcase 20,000 marine inhabitants and will definitely be one of the largest in Asia. Now Filipinos need not travel to Singapore just to see it’s Sentosa Underwater World or Hong Kong’s Ocean Park. I’m excited. Good photos here
Plus the fact that it is located at the very heart of Manila. A few steps away from Luneta or Intramuros.
From what I heard, prices for adults will be around Php400 while children will be charged Php200.
Here is the artist’s rendition of the oceanarium once finished.

edit: I am not in anyway connected to the Manila Oceanarium since many of you guys are asking me when the opening of the park is. I went there last October as part of the press for a preview. The company officials however told us that time that they will open on December 17 of this year
edit II: please go to this entry for updates

waw. ayos to.

The manila Oceans Park will be opened on February 2008…. Worry ko lang kasi dahil may malls…mas lalo madudumihan ang manila bay… sana wala na lang malls..total madami naman resto na malapit dun…
Comment by Liza — January 3, 2008 @ 8:37 am
wow i like the artist’s rendition of the oceanarium! I hope the outcome will be much likable. This is like the underwater world in singapore, (as they have said). The entrance fee for adults is P400 while P350 for kids. not bad. I hope that there will be different species of marine life because in Singapore there’s a lot and it’s enjoyable. I dont care if our oceanarium is bigger than in Singapore, what’s important is the quantity and quality of the oceanarium.
*I think this will be opened in February(not sure)

i got the chance to listen to dzrb. two girls from Manila Ocean Park were interviewed, Tina and Magnolia. They said that the reason for the delay is the extension of construction activities to include new attractions and to ensure the safety of the facility. As of now daw eh okay na okay na… Dumaan ako kanina and napinturahan na yung facade. Mukhang andon na yung mga species kasi ang strict ng security. Although ginagawa pa yung entrance, mukhang finally eh mag-oopen na nga. Feb 24 daw e.

Comment by adrew — March 1, 2008 @ 9:37 pm
Regular Rate: P400
Student Rate: P350
Only the Oceanarium part is open, Mall and Resto is still under construction.
Expect na very crowded ang place. sobrang daming tao. so avoid weekends.
Limited pa ang stay sa loob to accomodate other guests. its like a quick tour inside. so just find a way to roam around wisely para masulit ung P400 (for me mahal). makipag-taguan sa mga staff.. :p

Hi there! Just want to share what I have experienced inside the “Karagatan sa Ilalim ng Dagat” adventure. Manila Ocean park are now open to public last February 29, 2008!
I’ve been to Manila Ocean Park last weekend and I find it very Educational. If your a first timer to see the “Karagatan sa ilalim ng dagat” here are some of the few tips to remember:
First, don’t turn on your digicam flash if your inside the park. I don’t get the point why the staff keeps on announcing to turn off the flash of our digicams. Second, don’t stay too long in one of the spots. As you go on with your tour you will be amazed with the huge aquariums with big fishes and tiny little ones. Lastly, foods and drinks are not allowed inside. A medium size fruit shake will cost you Php 90.00 and a sandwich hotdog cost Php 35.00-45.00 (depending on variants).

I haven’t been to the MOP yet as I plan to go visit when things have calmed down a bit …. lesser crowd and HOPEFULLY more courteous staff as what I have read from the post of remzamora in http://www.ourawesomeplanet.com/awesome/2007/11/manilaoceanpark.html.
I too have seen the oceanarium in HK and even the gigantic oceanariums in the U.S. Yes, I agree that the fishes in the Tunnel are small fish as compared to the ones I have seen overseas based from most of the photographs and videos of the MOP online.
However, the one BIG thing that disappoints me and is very noticeable even in the photographs and videos is the design and seascaping of the aquarium interior. I was hoping to see a more natural effect …. one that mimics the naturalness and natural look of the ocean floor. What I mean here is that in the photos, I can clearly see objects that are man-made structures. The drain on the flooring of the aqaurium inside the tunnel is so clearly visible. In some aquariums, I can see man-made, objects like a ship steering wheel inside … I am aware that the designers are trying to add some sort of “seascaping” (as opposed to landscaping) but those man-made decors becomes more of a distraction to the naturalness of the seaquarium instead of enhancing it. I think that the interior designers of the seaquariums should adopt a more natural and more calming look to their seascaping effort.
