call center

I went to Sulu last February to cover a news event there. As part of my coverage, I went to a Marines Camp in Sulu. Before the entrance of the camp, I saw this soldier near a post where cellular phones are hanged.

Curious as to why the cellphones are there, I asked the soldier why. He said he is calling his family at home. Because the camp is situated in the mountains, cellular signal is very weak and there are a few hot spots where they can get a signal. This post is one of them. Ayun! Hahahaha kaya pala! Soldiers await text messages from their loved ones and will retrieve them only upon return in the “call center.” You’re lucky if you happen to be near the station if somebody calls your phone.

Filipino ingenuity at its best! Galing!
